The Home of Mercy Adult Care Center
I. Mission
The Garden of Mercy Foundation was officially founded in September 1999 and its residential care facility for HIV patients (the Home of Mercy) was established in 2000 to offer, in the spirit of Jesus Christ, homeless terminal AIDS patients a secluded and quiet place to live in, to provide care for body, mind, and soul, to help patients obtain safe medical care, spiritual solace, and support from family, friends, and society as a whole.
II. Goal
Designed to provide residential care for terminal AIDS patients and to serve as a bridge between the community and medical providers, the Garden of Mercy Foundation started with just twelve beds, providin loving humanitarian care that highlights respect for the individual.
III. Reason of Establishment In light of public fear and rejection of AIDS patients that has led to unjust treatment of AIDS patients, the Garden of Mercy Foundation decided to establish the Home of Mercy as aresidential care facility, providing hospice and home care. The Home provides HIV patients and infants with physical, mental, and spiritual care to help them obtain better lives, spiritual solace, family support, and communal care.
IV. Service Designed for
1. Terminal AIDS patients 2. Short term care for AIDS patients cared for by their families to give family members a break. 3. AIDS Patients discharged from hospital who need a place to stay before going home.
V. Case Sources
1. Referred by hospitals and relevant organizations.
2. Patient or family member applications.
VI. Services 1. Daily Life Care: Providing warm care and free room and board. 2. Social workers perform careful evaluations of the various needs of patients at different stages to facilitate bringing together resources to meet needs at each stage. 3. Individual psychological counseling is provided to help patients arrange and adapt to their lives after they return home.
4. Hospice care provides physical, mental, and spiritual care.
5. Family Visits: Depending on the situation of individual cases, patients are allowed to visit their families.
6. Patient family support system.
VII. Special Characteristics of the Home of Mercy
◎Free room and board.
◎Four, two, and single-bed rooms. Air-conditioned, spacious, well-lit, clean, and comfortable environment.
◎Group Work—Activities and patient growing groups are arranged from time to time.
◎Volunteers as companions to care for patients.
◎Locating and utilization of useful resources in the community.
◎Specialists provide health evaluation information to doctors as a reference.
◎Progressive rehabilitation programs/treatment for patients based on their needs.
◎Professional nursing.
VIII. Facilities The Home currently has a total of 12 beds, including one 5-bed, one 4-bed, and one 2-bed room, and a hospice care room along with living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, gardens, a new bathroom, and cleaning facilities. We provide a warm and comfortable environment with nurses.
